BOARD TRUSTEE
Raleigh Boots On The Ground

In 2007, I began my accounting career at Kathy’s Accounting Services, my mother’s accounting business, before becoming the treasurer for Raleigh Boots on the Ground. Since then, I have served in a variety of roles in our family’s business, including administrative assistant, tax preparer, business consultant, bookkeeper, tax advocate, and daughter. I left corporate roles to create a legacy that will last for generations and I have no regrets. My mother will be the first to inform you that it’s a ministry first and business second. I am proud to serve a ministry that I am proud of and a legacy that I intend to continue. Today, Kathy’s Accounting Services handles over 700 personal and business taxes annually and supports over 50 businesses in their bookkeeping activities. At Clayton State University in Morrow, GA, I was formally educated in accounting. My expertise lies in non-profit accounting, business bookkeeping, and individual taxation.

In April 2007, thirty-two teachers and students were killed on the campus of Virginia Tech. Four seniors did not graduate. I completed my degree at Meredith College in May 2007. To honor those who were unable to participate in the celebration of their accomplishments,

my entire graduating class wore maroon ribbons pinned to our graduation robes. No flower bouquets, no graduation greeting cards, no beaming parents, and no hope for the future. The only consolation for those four seniors and their loved ones was death. Ryan Clark, 22, was an English, biology and psychology student, a resident assistant and a member of the Marching Virginia College group. Jarrett Lane, 22, was a student who majored in Civil Engineering. Michael Pohle, 23, was a student who majored in Biological Sciences. Maxine Turner, 22, was a student in Chemical Engineering. Our commencement speaker was Elizabeth Edwards, and it was a beautiful Mother’s Day in May of 2007.

But to this day it’s met with melancholy memories, how can I truly delight in the memory of that time without the thoughts of those thirty-two souls lost to the careless action of one.  A 9mm Glock pistol and 50 rounds of ammunition were used to steal thirty-two opportunities to change the world.

Gun violence has affected everyone in America. As a nation, we are all plagued by it. It has been woven into our cultural fabric. There are churches, grocery stores, elementary schools, high schools, college campuses, and walking trails in pain. Lives torn apart between the dead and the living, our American tragedy.

Get Involved

Violence prevention is not something that can be done by some of us. It has to be taken on head first by all of us. Get involved in a growing movement of dedicated volunteers that are constructing safer, healthier homes, schools, and communities for our children.
